Triple Crossing at Tredegar – Riverfront Beer Garden Saturday

So you sold all your earthly belongings at the community yard sale in Pleasant’s Park, and you are hot, thirsty, and need a place to spend all that money…maybe you should wander down the hill…

Paraphrased from the FaceBook event page:

Saturday from 12-8PM Tredegar will be doing a reverse rain dance for their first riverfront beer garden, Triple Crossing at Tredegar. We will have a our beers on draft (whispers of a Tredegar first release of a Double Waxing Variant are floating around), multiple food trucks, a couple DJs, beautiful setting and a laid back time.

Dogs are allowed.

Here is a nice overhead look of the Tredegar patio where the Beer Garden will take place:

Intermediate Terminal #3, Section 106 Comment, by Charles Pool

This is not Oregon Hill news, but it is newsworthy, and does relate back to the neighborhood’s efforts to preserve Canal and riverfront history. Laurel Street neighbor Charles Pool has submitted a detailed comment in the ongoing Stone Brewing/Intermediate Terminal building controversy. (City Council has delayed voting on the Stone matter six times now!).

Please click here to see the full comment in PDF form.

Summary:
• Intermediate Terminal #3 is a rare resource associated with Richmond’s
important history as a thriving port on the James River.
• The building was completed in 1938 as a New Deal project with federal
funding from the Public Works Administration.
• The Terminal played an important role in the life of the city as a municipally-
owned warehouse for commodities imported (such as sugar from Cuba) and
exported (such as tobacco).
• The Intermediate Terminal #3 in authentic, unaltered condition as
confirmed by the original building blueprints.
• The building is structurally sound, built with steel-reinforced concrete as
confirmed by the building permit, blueprints, building specifications and
visual inspection.
• The Intermediate Terminal #3 is one of the first commercial buildings in
Richmond built on piers to avoid flooding of the James River.
• The building is a low-rise structure that does not adversely impact the
important viewshed from Libby Hill.
• Intermediate Terminal #3 should be preserved as one of the few surviving
landmarks associated with Richmond’s port history.

Vinyl Conflict To Release New Album By Local Hip Hop Artist

RVA Magazine has an interesting article about how the Vinyl Conflict store is expanding its in-house label offerings to include hip hop.

Excerpt:

Vinyl Conflict record shop has announced that Nickelus F’s new album, Stuck, will be released on the shop’s locals-only label, Vinyl Conflict Records, later this summer with an edition of 500 copies. The album was originally released on AGM on May 11 as a digital-only release.

Vinyl Conflict is known throughout the region for its selection of punk, metal, and hardcore records. Bobby Egger, owner and operator of Vinyl Conflict, started the locals-only imprint almost a decade ago to showcase punk and hardcore groups from Richmond. Nickelus F will be the first hip-hop artist on the label.

“We went through some really really dark times out here,” said Nickelus F. “I think we’re raising the integrity of the art that comes out from the city when it comes to hip hop artists.”

Egger is excited for the upcoming release Vinyl Conflict records, and has several other hip hop releases planned for the near future. He was surprised to learn that Nickelus F was dialed into the punk scene well before they agreed to do the record, and that his favorite local metal band is Cough.

Trash/Recycling Pickup Tomorrow

This Wednesday is a “Red Wednesday”, which means trash and recycling pickup. Ideally, rolling recycling containers are stored and deployed in the back alleys along with trash cans. Please make sure you pick up containers after pickup tomorrow night.

If you have not done so already, don’t forget to sign up for your Recycling Perks.
