A linden tree freshly planted on 900 block Idlewood was vandalized last night. An attempt was made at pulling it up and it has a big scrape on the trunk. A neighbor righted it as best as he could.

New Trees!
Oregon Hill residents are grateful and excited and about three new linden trees planted near the corner of Idlewood and, of course, Linden Streets. These trees can live for centuries. Considered sacred in Slavic culture, the linden is also associated with truth, justice and love in Germanic areas.

Street Art On Cherry Street
At least one Cherry Street neighbor is challenging the wisdom of this installation.
He says, “Please tell me tax dollars didn’t go into this and that they will come clean this mess up on the 400 block S Cherry…”
UPDATE: It appears that this installation was not authorized by RPL, GrovRVA, or Art180 though someone has clearly implicated these organizations in this project.
Tree Stewards!
From email announcement:
Richmond Tree Steward classes will begin again in January with a 10 week course that is packed with information and delivered by excellent speakers. Our hope is that the room is filled with citizens who want to join our efforts to help care for the urban forest and be a community resource. Since class size is limited preference will be given to those who wish to become Certified Tree Stewards and volunteer with our organization.
Get more information and apply at http://richmondtreestewards.org/tree-steward-class-2014/
According to the site, the deadline to apply is November 22.

View of Oregon Hill From Across Belvidere
The 1991 photos of downtown from the Virginia Penitentiary that recently appeared on the Shockoe Examiner blog prompted me to wonder if there were any views of Oregon Hill from the same vantage point.
