Byrd House Market Closed Tuesday For Bike Race

Byrd House Market will be closed on Tuesday, Sep. 22 due to road and expressway exit ramp closures to accommodate the UCI Road World Championship races that day.
These closures will be in effect from 8:45 am to 5:45 pm, Sunday, 9/20 through Tuesday 9/22. Click here for details.
Deer Run Farm, Tomten Farm and Agriberry will Renegade on the Byrd House Market grounds to serve their CSA and local customers who typically walk to market.
A handful of our vendors will be at Lakeside Farmers Market that afternoon from 3:30-6:30 pm: Faith Farm Foods, Ninja Kombucha, and Agriberry.

New Nearby Development

RichmondBizSense.com has an article on new townhouse construction planned for the eastern portion of Randolph neighborhood.

From the article:

Richmond’s own TriBeCa – a cluster of brownstone three-story homes on the easternmost edge of the Randolph neighborhood – has begun work on six more units, with nine additional detached homes planned next year.

The Lower Manhattan neighborhood’s name is an acronym for Triangle Below Canal Street, and its Richmond counterpart is short for Triangle Below Cary Street. Its inspiration is a triangle of land that is bordered by South Harrison Street and Grayland and Idlewood avenues.

It’s interesting that the article makes no mention of the Idlewood roundabout project, which should be starting construction also.

UDC Meets Thursday

Reminder from City Councilperson Parker Agelasto:

The Urban Design Committee will meet on September 4 at 10:00 am in the 5th Floor Conference Room at City Hall. On the agenda is the Conceptual Location, Character and Extent Review of the proposed roundabout along Idlewood Avenue between S. Cherry and S. Harrison Streets (UDC No. 2014-30, as well as the same review of the proposed Floyd Avenue Bike Boulevard (UDC No. 2014-31). The Carytown Gateway Sign (UDC No. 2014-12) will receive its Final Location, Character and Extent Review.

Additional:

Kimley-Horn Associates has completed the design for the proposed roundabout on Idlewood Avenue between S. Cherry and S. Harrison Streets. Residents from Randolph and Oregon Hill are invited to walk the site with the engineers on Wednesday, September 3, at 9:00 am. The Urban Design Committee will then review the proposal at its meeting on September 4 at 10:00 am in the 5th Floor Conference Room at City Hall.

Idlewood Roundabout Plan Update

One of the topics covered at Councilperson Parker Agelasto’s meeting on Wednesday night was an update on the Idlewood roundabout project.

City Transportation Engineer Tom Flynn gave a quick background and overview, and then presented the “first, final draft” from engineering/design firm Kimley Horn. Due to some unforeseen costs, the plan right now is to NOT remove the stretch of Grayland at the time of roundabout construction, but leave it with a dead end. Expect this and other points to be covered at a future community meeting.
