Traffic Pattern Changes, Street Closings
for Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K

The Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The 10K events begin 8 a.m. Saturday, March 28, with the First Market Mile Kids Run. The first wave of the 10K steps off 8:30 a.m. near Broad and Harrison streets. The 10K’s finish line is on Franklin Street next to Monroe Park.

Logistics of the 10K will require numerous street closings and traffic pattern changes throughout the city. Following are the Richmond Police closings and changes scheduled from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday:

Broad Street from Belvidere Street to Lombardy Street will be closed from 5 a.m. to noon. The recommended detour for westbound traffic on Broad is right on Belvidere, left on Leigh Street and left on Allen Avenue. The recommended detour for eastbound traffic on Broad is left on Allen, right on Leigh and right on Belividere.
Laurel Street will be closed from Main to Grace streets from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Franklin Street will be closed from Shafer to Belvidere streets from 5 a.m. to 
2 p.m. and from Lombardy to Shafer from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
Lombardy Street will be closed from Broad to Park Avenue from 7:30 to 11 a.m.
Grace Street will be closed from Belvidere to Allen from 7:45 to 11 a.m.
Monument Avenue and Franklin Street will be closed from Staples Mill Road to Stuart Circle (Lombardy Street) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The recommended detour for eastbound traffic is left on Staples Mill, right on Broad, left on Allen, right on Leigh and right on Belvidere. The recommended detour for westbound traffic is right on Belvidere, left on Leigh, left on Allen and right on Broad.
The Boulevard will be closed at Monument Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The recommended detour for northbound traffic is left on Park Avenue, right on Thompson Street to I-195. The recommended detour for southbound traffic is right on Grace Street, right on Thompson Street, left on Broad Street, left on Hamilton Street to I-195.
Park Avenue will be close from Cherry Street to Lombardy from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m.

There will be many street closings for all north and south streets intersecting Monument Avenue and Franklin Street from Staples Mill Road to Belvidere Street. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use I-95 and I-195 to travel around the city.

In addition to the street closings, parking will be prohibited prior to and during the 10K on the following streets:

3 p.m. Friday, March 27, to noon Saturday
Both sides of Broad Street from Belvidere to Lombardy
Both sides of Franklin Street from Belvidere to Shafer
Both sides of Laurel Street from Grace to Cathedral

5 a.m. to noon Saturday
Both sides of Monument Avenue from Stuart Circle to Staples Mill
Both sides of Franklin Street from Stuart Circle to Shafer
Both sides of Laurel Street from Cathedral to Main
Both sides of Park Avenue from Harrison to Linden
Both sides of Lombardy from Park to Monument

5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
Both sides of Chantilly Street from Monument to Monumental
Both sides of Kent Street from Wythe to Monument

In addition, parking will be prohibited on both sides of Lombardy from Broad to Stuart Circle from 5 to 10 a.m. Saturday and both sides of Grace from Belvidere to Allen from 5 to 10:30 a.m.

Richmond Police reminds all 10K event participants and attendees to take advantage of parking in the decks near the start and finish lines and to not leave any items that may tempt would-be thieves in plain view in your vehicle, regardless of where you park.

Richmond Marathon This Saturday- Street Closings

SUNTRUST RICHMOND MARATHON, McDONALD’S HALF MARATHON & NTELOS 8k
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2008

Cary Street will be closed between 3rd and 12th Streets from 4am to 5pm. The recommended detour is southbound 3rd Street to Byrd Street. Byrd Street will bear left and intersect Canal Street. Follow Canal east to 14th Street.
Broad Street (both eastbound and westbound) between 4th and 11th Streets will be closed to traffic from 4 to 9am. Westbound traffic will be detoured north onto 11th Street and west on Leigh Street to the Boulevard.
Broad Street (both eastbound and westbound) between 4th Street and N. Boulevard will be closed from 6 to 9. Eastbound traffic will be detoured north on Sheppard Street, east on Marshall Street, north on the Boulevard, east on Leigh Street, south on 10th Street, east on Marshall Street, south on 12th Street back to Broad Street.
Traffic on 4th Street will be reversed starting at 9am to allow Eastbound Broad Street traffic to access Franklin Street to Bank Street to 12th or 14th Street.
Grace Street from Allen Ave. to 3rd Street will be closed from 6am to 3pm.
3rd Street from Broad Street to Cary Street will be closed from 6am to 3pm.
Mulberry Street between Broad St. and Monument Ave. will be closed from 6 to 9am for the Ntelos 8K.
Grace Street will be closed between Boulevard and Allen Ave. from 6 to 9am for the NTELOS 8K.
Lombardy Street between Brook Rd. and Monument Ave will be closed from 7 to 3pm.
North Boulevard northbound from Broad St. to Hermitage Rd. will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonald’s Half Marathon.
Hermitage Road northbound from Boulevard to Pope Ave will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonalds Half Marathon.
Brookland Parkway eastbound from Hermitage Rd. to Lamont St. will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonald’s Half Marathon.
Lamont Street from Brookland Pkwy to Whitby Rd. will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonald’s Half Marathon.
Whitby Road from Lamont St. to Rennie Ave will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonald’s Half Marathon.
Rennie Ave. from Whitby Rd. to Loxley Rd. will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonald’s Half Marathon.
Loxley Road from Rennie Ave. to Westwood Ave will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonald’s Half Marathon.
Westwood Ave. from Loxley Rd. to Hermitage Rd. will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonald’s Half Marathon.
Gloucester Road from Westwood Ave. to Wilmington Ave. will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonald’s Half Marathon.
Confederate Ave. from Chatham Rd. to Lamont St. will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonald’s Half Marathon.
Wilmington Avenue from Chatham Rd. to Lamont St. will be closed from 7 to 10am for the McDonald’s Half Marathon.
Monument Avenue westbound between Mulberry and Westmoreland will be closed from 7:30 to 9:30am.
Grove Avenue westbound between Commonwealth and Granite will be closed from 7:30 to 9:30am.
Riverside Dr. will be closed from the Huguenot Bridge to Scottview Drive from 6am to Noon.
Forest Hill Ave. westbound from Roanoke St. to W. 47th St. will be closed from 8 to 11:30am.
Belvidere Street northbound at Grace Street will be closed from 7am to 3pm. The recommended detour will be east on Byrd Street to the Downtown Expressway eastbound to I-95 northbound.
Belvidere Street southbound between Broad and Grace Streets will be closed from 7am to 3pm. The recommended detour for southbound Belvidere Street will be onto I-95 southbound just north of Leigh Street.
The Huguenot Bridge will be closed to northbound traffic from 8am to approximately 11am. Northbound traffic on Huguenot Road will be detoured north from Huguenot Road onto Chippenham Parkway to the Willey Bridge.
The southbound exit ramp from the Powhite Parkway to Forest Hill Avenue and the northbound entrance ramp from westbound Forest Hill Avenue onto the Powhite Parkway will be closed to traffic from 8am until approximately 11am.
There will also be numerous and frequent lane closures along the Marathon, Half Marathon & 8k routes, including closures on: Broad Street, North Boulevard, Monument Avenue, Grove Avenue, Granite Avenue, Cary Street Road, River Road, Scottview Drive, Forest Hill Avenue, Semmes Avenue, the Lee Bridge, Belvidere Street, West Main Street, Hermitage Road, Fauqier Avenue, Brook Road. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution when entering these roadways or making turns across the runners’ paths along these roadways.

As many of the people that run this live in the neighborhood, I imagine most of this is caused by out-of-towners, but if you have a chance, go out and check out the festivities…it’s fun stuff!

I just wanted to warn everybody to be on the lookout for illegal activity in the neighborhood this weekend. Last year the neighborhood got tagged in numerous locations and trash was left everywhere. I’m all for having a good time as long as everybody keeps it legal, respects their neighbors and cleans up their mess.
