Flag Auction

A recent announcement from a neighbor:

Hey Yall! I’m Haleh, upholsterer and textile artist on Pine Street. I, like many others, am concerned about how I’m going to make money in the current situation while my fabric vendors are shutting their doors and my clients as well.
I make flags, in fact, I made the banner that St Andrews hangs to advertise the OHNA meetings. I have a cool flag up in my window right now and it is available through a raffle, if you want a chance of winning it for $10!
the link is 800dollarstore.bigcartel.com and there are three options for purchase. It is high quality and durable, like all of my work, and available to be seen in my window until the auction ends on March 26 2020. Thanks for your time, please share if you think you have people who would like a chance to own this, and stay safe and healthy. Love to you and your people.

Quiet Mornings

This photo was actually taken on the 600 block of S. Pine Street yesterday morning- only people on the streets were one or two people walking dogs and a Richmond utility worker doing maintenance on one of the manhole areas. Which is good- with the pandemic outbreak, hopefully neighbors are taking calls to socially distant themselves seriously. Notice the little, red, dog toy rubber ball in the corner of the yard- looks like some of the artist renderings of coronavirus.

These are early days of this, and hopefully people are finding ways to keep themselves entertained. Chalk paintings on sidewalk on 400 block of S. Laurel-

Many people have seen the ‘contagion’ movies in which perfect hygiene is attempted with hazmat suits worn on the outside and structures sealed. That’s very difficult with pet dogs and old houses. In Oregon Hill, many neighbors’ porches are less than 6 feet apart- not that we are busy interacting, but we do live in a dense, city area. Hope that current measures are enough…

Board of Zoning Appeals Notice

BZA – February 2020 Agenda

An application of John & Mandy Tennyson and Amber Reitz for a special exception from Sections 30-300 & 30-413.7 of the zoning ordinance for a building permit to construct an addition to a single-family detached dwelling at 521 SOUTH PINE STREET (Tax Parcel Number W000-0119/025), located in an R-7 (Single- and Two-Family Urban Residential District). The lot coverage requirement is not met.

Their representative will be at the upcoming OHNA meeting.

New Stop Signs

NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN!!! Once again, we have new stop signs popping up around the neighborhood. While neighbors knew that new all-way stops had been approved by City Council, many were surprised by their sudden implementation.
Laurel and Albemarle intersection is now an all way stop, new Spring and Pine Street intersection is too. Please alert neighbors and other drivers.

New Stop Signs In Consideration

Oregon Hill is once again looking at possibly changing traffic patters as a new proposal is being weighed at City Council’s Land Use, Housing, and Transportation Committee.

Ordinance 2019-147 reads:
To erect all-way stop signs at the intersections of Spring Street and South Pine Street, Spring Street and South Laurel Street, Albemarle Street and South Laurel Street, and Albemarle Street and South Cherry Street, with a painted stop line at each intersection.

This follows neighbors’ discussion with City Councilperson Parker Agelasto’s office in regard to continued concerns about traffic safety. To quickly recap, neighbors originally requested all-way stop signs at Spring and Laurel and Spring and Pine, but agreed to try changing more intersections’ stop sign direction, now that concerns have continued, all-stops are being reconsidered.
