This is an invitation to all RRFP bowling teams and supporters to come out and hock their wares in support of abortion access in VA. Bring a table and your crafts, cupcakes, BAT merch, clothes, knick knacks, records, anything at all you think you can sell, and plenty of cash for change. If you’re selling stuff with a percentage going to the RRFP, please let folks know what that percentage is. We’ve got the space in front of 3 Oregon Hill houses on a beautiful spring day, so come on out and invite your friends!
From WTVR News:
Facing the rising costs of retaining teachers and utilities, plus finding money for financial aid, support services and academic facilities, Virginia Commonwealth University may raise tuition rates.
The VCU Board of Visitors met over the weekend to discuss tuition options, according to a news release from university spokeswoman Pam Lepley.
….
To meet increased costs, the board will consider a four-percent tuition increase and some new, ‘market-based tuition strategies.’
“New, market-based tuition pricing may generate revenues to move into fiscal year 2014-2015, but it must be paired with expense reallocation and new ways of thinking about current operational programs that cut costs,” David W. Hanson, chief operating officer and senior vice president, said in a statement.
One market-based tuition pricing strategy is a per-credit pricing structure. It would be based on an annual four percent tuition and fee increase over four years and 15 credits per semester. This set-up, the university said, would mean more money from VCU, but allow students to graduate faster – lowering their overall costs.
This was predicted in November of last year.
This Wednesday is a red Wednesday, which means trash and recycling pickup. Please make sure you pick up containers after pickup tomorrow night. They do not belong on the sidewalk after tomorrow night.
Waste & Recycling News has some neat galleries on their website of the history of the garbage truck as well as the future of the garbage truck

There will be two presentations! One Monday, April 15th at The Flying Brick at 7pm and the second Tuesday, April 16th at Richmond Salon III in the VCU Student Commons at 7pm.
The presentation based on crow’s book Black Flags and Windmills: Hope, Anarchy and the Common Ground Collective (PM Press) is used as a foundation for a visual, fast moving and engaging presentation of stories to show what ordinary people can do to change their own worlds without governments. It is equal parts personal story, radical history and organizing philosophy based on crow’s experiences as a radical and anarchist organizer in the US. Some highlights covered are the connections and influences of past movements on current grassroots political organizing, the creation of the Common Ground Collective–the largest anarchist/horizontal inspired organization in modern US history formed after Hurricane Katrina in 2005–crow being labeled a ‘domestic terrorist’ by the US government and investigated for 10 years as and the effects of the ‘war on terrorism’ on political dissent and building power from below.

Of course, there’s a lot more to the Richmond Connects plan (buses, trains, etc.) and there is still time to submit comments.
(I will not relate all the comments I made, except that I did suggest mass transit options for our riverfront parks as a solution to parking/traffic nightmares.)
