City Quickly Replaces Missing Stop Sign
Dear Mr. Sawyer,
I want to send a hearty “Thank You” for the fast work of Maintenance Tech III Andre Cannady for so promptly replacing the missing STOP sign in Oregon Hill! He immediately installed a temporary stop sign and after assessing the situation promptly returned and installed a new pole and sign. This was done within a half hour of receiving the report of the missing sign.
Mr. Cannady’s prompt work may have prevented an accident at this busy corner. Thank you so much for taking care of this issue so speedily!
Gratefully,
Charles Pool

Gunfire In Neighborhood Last Night
Neighbors were awoken about 2:15 am Friday night/Saturday morning by at least 16 shots, some of them in rapid succession. Although accounts are not quite clear, it sounds like they may have stemmed from an argument/altercation around Laurel and Albemarle. Witnesses saw guns fire from speeding cars that went down Laurel and up Pine.
This morning, some neighbors found fresh bullet holes in their walls and plan to inspect their roofs. Others are gathering security camera footage and figuring out car makes/models to give to police.

Utility Work Planned For 600 Block of S. Laurel
Quiet Mornings
This photo was actually taken on the 600 block of S. Pine Street yesterday morning- only people on the streets were one or two people walking dogs and a Richmond utility worker doing maintenance on one of the manhole areas. Which is good- with the pandemic outbreak, hopefully neighbors are taking calls to socially distant themselves seriously. Notice the little, red, dog toy rubber ball in the corner of the yard- looks like some of the artist renderings of coronavirus.
These are early days of this, and hopefully people are finding ways to keep themselves entertained. Chalk paintings on sidewalk on 400 block of S. Laurel-
Many people have seen the ‘contagion’ movies in which perfect hygiene is attempted with hazmat suits worn on the outside and structures sealed. That’s very difficult with pet dogs and old houses. In Oregon Hill, many neighbors’ porches are less than 6 feet apart- not that we are busy interacting, but we do live in a dense, city area. Hope that current measures are enough…

Fox On S. Laurel
This fox was spotted on the 600 block of S. Laurel Street. It was not showing any eagerness to get away from people.
Another theory concerning these increasing animal sightings is that creatures are being pushed out of their more hidden natural areas by competition with coyotes.
