Barry’s Laurel Street Demo Available Again

Chunksaah Records has re-issued punk singer Tim Barry’s first solo career recordings. It seems fitting, since the rental house he lived in on the 500 block of S. Laurel is now undergoing extensive renovations.

These are the raw sketches of songs that have become fan favorite sing-alongs, where you can first discern his now signature style. It also includes the live recording of Tim singing with the children of the Munford Elementary School in Richmond Virginia. This includes 2 WOODY GUTHRIE songs and is quite in the style and feel of Guthrie’s recordings for children.

Parking Parking Parking

Not as important as Transportation Transportation Transportation, but still on folks’ minds…

I am not sure what’s going on, but evidently no parking on west side of Laurel Street 195 overpass tomorrow…

In contrast, this sign is more explanatory…some celebrity cook guy is coming to the Landmark tomorrow and needs parking

But then there is this VCU news… (click for Commonwealth Times link)

Proposal Would Raise Parking Costs

Perhaps some of this will be discussed at the Oregon Hill Neighborhood Association meeting tomorrow evening…or maybe the 5th District meeting on Wednesday evening

Parts of Neighborhood Lose Power Due to Cumberland Incident

From City’s Traffic Accidents and Hazards report page:

S LAUREL ST/CUMBERLAND ST ASSIST FIRE DEPARTMENT, TRAFFIC AND/OR CROWD CONTROL On Scene 10:37 AM COMPL ADVISES THE WIRE IS STILL ATTACHED…BUT IS SMOKING…E5 OS WIRE ON FIRE

From Laurel Street neighbor:

FYI
Power just went out for us and neighbors all around. We called the Dominion and they said it’s due to an equipment fire. Power is supposed to be restored between 2-4pm today.

From The Plan…

…, the Richmond Connects transportation draft plan that is-

Looks like the Idlewood roundabout proposal made the Safety Project draft map. Also notice the 2nd Street Connector marked in blue as a new street.

for the next map, use this legend-

Of course, there’s a lot more to the Richmond Connects plan (buses, trains, etc.) and there is still time to submit comments.

(I will not relate all the comments I made, except that I did suggest mass transit options for our riverfront parks as a solution to parking/traffic nightmares.)

Monument 10K Saturday – Lots of Road Closings in the Area

From Richmond Police:

The Richmond Police Department asks motorists to be mindful of runners, street closings and parking restrictions for the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K this Saturday. The events begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, with the Virginia 529 Kids Run. The first wave of the 10K steps off 8:30 a.m. near Broad and Harrison streets. The 10K’s finish line is on Franklin Street next to Monroe Park.

Logistics of the 10K will require numerous street closings and traffic pattern changes throughout the city beginning with parking restrictions starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 12. Restrictions and closures will continue until 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.

Richmond Police reminds all 10K event participants and attendees to take advantage of parking in the decks near the start and finish lines and to not leave any items that may tempt would-be thieves in plain view in your vehicle, regardless of where you park.
