Angel of Hope Ceremony Tomorrow

Each year a special ceremony is held in Hollywood Cemetery to honor the many children who have passed away. The ceremony is held at the Angel of Hope statue in the Idlewood section.

Inspired by Richard Paul Evans’ best-selling novel by the same the name, the Angel of Hope is a bronzed angel that sits in numerous cemeteries across the country to memorialize lost children and create a place for collective healing.

Join us on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 6:00pm for this year’s candlelight ceremony. The event is free and all are welcome.

Sunday Specialty Tour of Hollywood Cemetery (Walking Tour)

This Sunday at 2 pm, there is a especially detailed tour of Hollywood Cemetery.

An extension of the daily “Highlights” tour, this version covers in more detail the cemetery’s unique history, landscape design, architecture, symbols and residents.

$15 per person
$5 for Valentine Members
Walk-ups welcome.
Cash or check.
On-street parking.

The nineteenth-century burial ground is the second-most-visited cemetery in the nation, behind only Arlington National. Its 135 riverfront acres—dotted with ancient tulip poplars, bald cypresses, and black gum trees—are home to the grave sites of two presidents and thousands of Confederate soldiers.

An extended version of the daily “Highlights” tour, this longer version covers in more detail the cemetery’s unique history, landscape design, architecture, symbols, and residents. Meet at the rear of the stone structure on the left at the cemetery entrance, at Cherry and Albemarle streets. Please note that this tour is 1.5 to 2 miles and involves several inclines. Comfortable shoes and water are recommended.

$15 per person.

$5 for Valentine Members.

Walk-ups welcome.

Established in 1847, Hollywood Cemetery is a magnificent example of the rural garden style cemetery and was one of America’s first parks. Learn about the cemetery’s history, artwork, symbolism, and some of the more famous of its over 80,000 residents, including well-known writers, politicians, Confederate notables and two United States presidents.

From the Pyramid monument in the Confederate section to the gravesite of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, high above the James River, Hollywood Cemetery is the final resting place for over 18,000 Confederates, including J.E.B. President James Monroe’s Birthday Memorial On Thursday

President James Monroe’s birthday celebration is an annual event at Hollywood Cemetery. A gravesite presidential wreathlaying ceremony will be hosted by the James Monroe Memorial Foundation. The event will begain at 11:0am, but is subject to any changes by the Army, which conducts the ceremony.
