Trent Jackson, a first year student at VCU has founded a venture called Lil’ Sprouts Microgreens. It is an urban microgreens farm in Oregon Hill whose main goal is to promote living a healthy lifestyle by providing fresh, flavorful, nutrient-dense microgreens to the local area. The philosophy of this business is that for an individual to live an optimized healthy life, it all starts with the food that a person consumes. It strives to bring only quality products into the hands of local markets, restaurants, and individuals. You can catch Trent vending his products at the Birdhouse Farmer’s Market on every other Tuesday from 3-6:30. For those who are interested or have questions about Lil’ Sprouts Microgreens, Trent’s business email is info@lilsproutsmicrogreens.com. Besides the website, there is also a FaceBook page.

Vinyl Conflict To Release New Album By Local Hip Hop Artist
RVA Magazine has an interesting article about how the Vinyl Conflict store is expanding its in-house label offerings to include hip hop.
Excerpt:
Vinyl Conflict record shop has announced that Nickelus F’s new album, Stuck, will be released on the shop’s locals-only label, Vinyl Conflict Records, later this summer with an edition of 500 copies. The album was originally released on AGM on May 11 as a digital-only release.
Vinyl Conflict is known throughout the region for its selection of punk, metal, and hardcore records. Bobby Egger, owner and operator of Vinyl Conflict, started the locals-only imprint almost a decade ago to showcase punk and hardcore groups from Richmond. Nickelus F will be the first hip-hop artist on the label.
—
“We went through some really really dark times out here,” said Nickelus F. “I think we’re raising the integrity of the art that comes out from the city when it comes to hip hop artists.”
Egger is excited for the upcoming release Vinyl Conflict records, and has several other hip hop releases planned for the near future. He was surprised to learn that Nickelus F was dialed into the punk scene well before they agreed to do the record, and that his favorite local metal band is Cough.
Virginia Nuclear Energy Consortium Authority Board Meeting
While it’s dizzying to keep up with VCU’s empire, and all of its acquisitions, citizens should also try to keep abreast of VCU’s connections to state and industry.
This morning the Virginia Nuclear Energy Consortium Authority board met in a building close to Oregon Hill.

Coming Soon… Peddler On Pine Street
Oysters
Manchester’s Dogtown Dish has a nice article on Oregon Hill resident Haleh Pedram’s upholstery business and her oyster-inspired pillows.
The RVA Environmental Film Festival has announced that the short film An Oyster’s-Eye View of the Virginia Oyster Shell Recycling Program is the winning entry of the 2018 RVA EFF Virginia Film Contest.
Be sure to make plans to attend this festival in February. Attendance is FREE!
But the bigger picture news is that Chesapeake Bay oysters are making a tentative comeback. They are starting to show signs of resistance to scourges like Dermo and MSX. Sad to say, this good, desperately needed development may be threatened by offshore drilling.
