Phone Tower Proposed and Opposed

T-Mobile
c/o Adrian Berezowsky
BirchCo, Inc.
38 Heritage Lane
Lagrangeville NY 12540

Dear Mr Berezowsky,

The Oregon Hill Neighborhood Association, inc met on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 and discussed the proposal to place a cell phone tower within the Oregon Hill Historic District at 805 W Cary Street, Richmond Va 23220. The group unanimously voted to oppose any Cell Phone tower or any additional height being added to the building at 805 w Cary Street. Oregon Hill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and we find that adding a cell phone tower or any additional height to this building, which is located in a gateway to the neighborhood, would significantly degrade the integrity of the historic fabric of our historic neighborhood. It would be visible from many buildings listed as contributing structures to the National Register and would serve as an eyesore upon entering the neighborhood through this corridor. It would set a terrible precedent for blighting the visual and aesthetic appeal of historic resources located in the historic Richmond, Virginia area.

Please know that we will take all legal measures in our power to defeat such an ill conceived proposal should you intend to pursue it.

Sincerely,

Charles T. Woodson, president
Oregon Hill Neighborhood Association, inc.

Sonic Coming To Oregon Hill

According to an article in Richmond Bizsense, in addition to a Pita Pit, the 805 W. Cary development will include a non-drive-through Sonic fast food restaurant.

Sonic has signed a lease to take over about 1,500 square feet in the 805W project – a four-story, 100-unit apartment development with about 8,000 square feet of ground floor commercial space that’s under construction at 805 W. Cary St.

Sonic will join Pita Pit as one of the the first commercial tenants of the 805W mixed-use development near VCU.

While it’s known nationally for its traditional drive-in and drive-thru window service, Sonic will forgo its typical store model for the 805W spot in favor of a dine-in concept – the chain’s first in the state.

Peddler On Pine Closes Restaurant, But Keeps Cart Business

Peddler On Pine released this message:

We want to say thank you to all of our amazing customers! It has been a pleasure to serve Oregon Hill over the past year and a half. We have decided to close our to-go restaurant in order to focus our time and attention on the carts and catering. You can still find most of your Peddler favorites at the Peddler on Pine St cart located at 11th & Clay! We look forward to seeing you there weekdays from 11-2! Again, thank you for your business.

Greta’s Frames

Laurel Street neighbor Greta Brinkman is back in town and she is re-launching her framing business. She makes frames out of antique reclaimed heart pine from the RVA area. She has many, many different types and sizes. For example, L-R: 5 x 7 wainscoting from a 1910 house in Oregon Hill 30.00. 4×6 beam from a 1892 church in Ashland 25.00. One remaining DAMAGE MANUAL hammer for the Pigface fans, also from that church- 60.00. And a 1930’s piece of veranda trim from Charlottesville 25.00. All frames come with glass and hardware, they’re ready to go!

Birdhouse Market Today

It’s been a while since OregonHill.net mentioned the Birdhouse Market- part of that has to do with the fact that the farmer’s market moved out of Oregon Hill into neighboring Randolph neighborhood, and part of it has to do with that for some reason we stopped receiving their e-newsletter. But we have started receiving it again and its good because the Birdhouse Market has expended in size since their move. More vendors = more choices, and right now, the Market is in full swing with summer growing season. They are open every Tuesday 3 – 6:30PM from May to November at 1507 Grayland Ave, next to the Randolph Community Center. For more info, click here to go to their website.

This week they are highlighting their vendor Back Pocket Briliance, which does some really great tasting bloody mary mixes. They work with independent small farms all over Virginia and spend their summers pressing fresh, ripe tomatoes into their mixes. Come sample them this afternoon.
