I hope to have an update on this story soon.
From the Times Dispatch:
A woman used pepper spray late last night to fend off an attacker in Richmond’s Oregon Hill area.
Richmond police Capt. Dave Martin said the 18-year-old victim “was a little scraped up but she refused medical treatment.”
The woman told police the attack occurred at 11:50 p.m. in the 300 block of South Cherry Street, just south of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Monroe Park campus, when an older male approached her and tried to forcibly take her backpack.
This comes right after a neighborhood association meeting last night where residents were told by police that the biggest crime in the area was theft from vehicles and crime was down in Oregon Hill 75%.
Has anyone noticed the new bum hangout/party area at the top of the S Laurel/ S Pine St alley? They are really loud when they get drunk and piss all over the place.
I suggest reporting bum hangout/party areas to the police. Being tolerant of the homeless does not mean they should be allowed to disturb the peace.
Got this update from police:
Suspect was a white male wearing a green puffy jacket and dark jeans. He is approximately 5’8” – 6’0” weighing between 180-200 lbs. He is approximately 30-40 years old and blonde with a beard. He came from between the houses at 311 S. Cherry St. and after the attack he fled in the same direction he came from.
I am proud of the girl for protecting herself. Good use of pepper spray.
You guys live in this weird world where you think O-hill will one day be kinda safe and somewhat clean.. No way! those o-hill cronies stink it up for you. they take over peoples porches, smoke weed in the open, pull out hand guns and get wasted in the open, steal in the open, set fire to stuff, in the open. You all have bought houses next to the most uneducated people in the city. How could anyone be surprised. All of Oregon Hill is a bum hangout party. For Christ sakes you have a bum named mad dog who trolls around for cash in a wheelchair. There was that crack house on Laurel until that old guy died. The only thing saving that neighborhood is Mamma’ Zu. You all need to get over yourselves and remember that No one was able to walk the streets of O-hill after dark until 2000 and a high % of your population uses the N-word on an hourly basis. You should have police posted at the corner of Laurel and albermarle. you know where they all hang out and those poor houses caught on fire. hmmmm………
“All of Oregon Hill is a bum hangout party”
“bought houses next to the most uneducated people in the city.”
“No one was able to walk the streets of O-hill after dark until 2000”
“and a high % of your population uses the N-word on an hourly basis.”
I can handle some of your spiel- yes, perhaps we are too tolerant of some of the homeless (this was a topic at the OHNA meeting on Tuesday)- but some of your comments (listed above) are just untrue. I am not going to respond to all your idiotic VCU student trash talk (yes, I see your VCU email address as admin; if I wanted to be a dick I could publish your name) because its simply not worth my time.
If you hate the neighborhood so much, then don’t come here. You are not wanted with such a negative attitude. Other VCU students are certainly welcome as long they don’t litter and respect the neighborhood.
well ftw I’ll assume the “n” word is nut.
I think ewe are just that a nut.
I’ll have ewe know Oregonhill was a very safe Community. We hade the lowest crime rate in the City for years. No murders no strong arms few break ins and no gun crime what so ever. Crime came to O Hill
when people who think like ewe moved in.
