From Occupy Richmond:
Speakers for this event will be given an opportunity to redress injustices and address systematic oppressions on topics such as law, labor, war, incarceration, LGBTQ rights, voting, immigration, economic justices, women’s rights, media and most importantly we will recognize our first amendment freedoms tied to each topic.
The vision for the forum is to educate, inspire and mobilize the entire community to have a voice & take action.
By gaining community support we can build a foundation to work towards socially just causes together, set future standards in our local government affairs, and spread national & global awareness.
Marty Jewell has a Free Speech Ordinance up for vote at the next City Council meeting Monday 6pm January 23rd.
We hope to fill the council chambers this night and encourage the people of Richmond to speak in favor (or opposition) to the ordinance.
I am bit concerned that there is no mention of opposition to the Citizens United decision, as Occupy elsewhere is putting that as a central issue, a la http://www.MoveToAmend.org
Hopefully that will appear soon and I hope there is a Councilperson who will sponsor a resolution on that topic.
