The “profits > people” equation is actually quite silly. Dominion’s stock has doubled over the past five years and is paying about 3.2% in dividends. People that own this stock are definitely benefiting. The thousands of people that are employees are benefiting by having well paying jobs in which they can support themselves and their families. Even those that don’t own stock were able to enjoy a great weekend on Brown’s Island. A money-losing company wouldn’t have been able to help put on a production such as this. People are certainly enjoying the fruits of profits.
I think the ‘profits > people’ sign was more geared towards the idea that 1) Dominion is degrading everyone’s environment by pushing fossil fuels, 2) Dominion’s rates are going up again, 3) Dominion and Venture Richmond are doing inordinate lobbying, resulting in more corporate welfare at the expense of the public. A lot of people are upset with short-term profits coming at the expense of long term human health.
