Over thirty people turned out yesterday evening at the William Byrd Community House for an organizational meeting of citizens opposed to the Shockoe Stadium proposal. In addition to a summary of the proposal, a listing of upcoming related dates, and much discussion, there was a preliminary presentation of alternatives to the City administration’s proposal for Shockoe Bottom development.
Meanwhile, 5th District Councilperson Parker Agelasto, who has come out against the Shockoe stadium plan so far, has announced a meeting on Jan. 9 at George Wythe high school to discuss Shockoe Bottom development. Other City Council members have announced meetings also.
Scott, you’ve helped change my mind and I want to thank you. I suppose keeping a trash filled, undeveloped, non-memorialized eyesore in our city center and not taking advantage of the property at the Boulevard is a far better idea than folding to these corporate fat cats. Agreed, we don’t need anymore supermarkets in our city center, apartments where people live and spend their money and new jobs close to people that need them the most. Driving to the far west end to go shopping is actually really not that bad and I forgot how much I truly LOVE short pump traffic. I’m now fully with you, we should just stick to the status quo for our city and hope for the best.
Let’s please be respectful of others opinions.
