Dear Police Chief Tarasovic,
I would like to know who hired the contractor that destroyed the pre-Civil War Tredegar wall on city property, and the public would like to know if the entity that hired the contractor be held responsible. The reasonable citizens of Richmond assume that the laws against destruction of public property will be applied equally and that this destruction of public property will not be “swept under the rug.”
I would greatly appreciate it if you applied transparency to the case of the destruction of the Tredegar wall on city property.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Scott Burger
Email sent March 23 (An earlier, similar email was sent by a neighbor in February and an even earlier email was sent last year to predecessor Chief Norwood). No responses received as of yet. I am hoping that Chief Tarasovic will be willing to speak to this issue tomorrow evening at the 5th District meeting.
From a February Times Dispatch article:
“I’m a transparent person,” Tarasovic said Tuesday after joining Mayor Dwight C. Jones in congratulating dozens of officers for winning awards. “I’ll tell you how I feel. I’m telling you how I feel now.”
“I believe in sunshine, and I think we will shine in the sun,” Tarasovic added, referring to transparency.
The road looks really nice, complete with a sidewalk, street lamps, and trees. This connector will help alleviate traffic on Byrd St..
The road looks great! Thanks to all involved, it will help us river-loving folks tremedously just in time for summer!
This is a joke: “the public would like to know if the entity that hired the contractor be held responsible. ”
In a previous post, Scott wrote “someone should go to jail” or something like that.
Get over your witch hunt Scott. It was an accident and very few people care to give it the attention you do. We know you’re just trying to point the finger at Dominion…we get it.
Now get over it or go start your own anti-corporation blog and rant there. Remember, many people around you are employed by and provede for their family and contribute to the Richmond economy by their employment from these companies (mwv, altria, dom, etc…) Im not talking about the lazy folks who waste energy ranting on their computers all day…..

“It’s currently under investigation,” city spokesman Mike Wallace said Monday. “The wall that was taken down on city property was, we believe, constructed a little before the start of the Civil War. So we take this very seriously with the destruction of public property.” Wallace said no permit was issued for the demolition of that section of the wall.

Unfortunately, Police Chief Tarascovic informed us yesterday that he is unavailable for the 5th District meeting on Wednesday, April 24th. We are working to get suitable representatives from the Richmond Police Department to substitute for him. Chief Tarascovic regrets the inconvenience and has offered to attend our next district meeting.
I am very concerned that the laws are not being administered impartially. Someone hired the contractor Liesfield to demolish the wall. I know that it was not an accident because I personally witnessed the wall being demolished with a bulldozer and the workers were stacking the bricks on pallets and wrapping them in plastic within a half hour of the demolition. This historic Tredegar wall belonged to the citizens of Richmond.
