This photo, taken after the last snow, shows the threatened section of the James River and Kanawha Canal where Venture Richmond is proposing to slice the south bank of the canal and back-fill the canal for an amphitheater. Ironically this location is adjacent to where the city just spent $285,000 to build a bridge over the canal.
Other cities would love to have a canal founded with George Washington as its first president. Has this historic canal survived 200 years in Richmond only to be irreparably damaged for, of all things, an amphitheater??
