Breaking News: Stabbing On Belle Island

Breaking news from NBC 12:

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) — Richmond Police are looking for a stabbing suspect, after a violent evening on Belle Isle Tuesday night.

Police tell us the victim was stabbed several times, but should be okay.

We’re told is all started out as some type of fight between the victim and suspect on Belle Isle. That escalated into the stabbing.

The victim was taken to the hospital. The suspect was still on the run.

RPD put up its plane, which used thermal imaging, to track the suspect. But, that suspect was never found.

The victim of the 8:30 p.m. assault was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment of multiple stab wounds, Richmond police Capt. Michael Zohab said. The victim’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, he said.

Zohab said the victim told police he had argued with the suspect, and the argument escalated into a fight, after which the victim realized he had been stabbed.

The suspect was described only as a black male, about 6 feet tall and wearing black shorts.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at (804) 780-1000.

  2. Wow. I was just on Belle Isle today walking on the wall that runs toward the river over that metal grate and I saw what looked like a good amount of blood (a spot roughly 12″) and bloody footprints on the wall! Do we know whether this is the location of the attack or was that just somebody gutting a catfish?

  3. PS: gotta add that the whole “thermal imaging” thing sounds cool, but I’m not sure it’s the best use of public funds when our schools are in such need – and it didn’t even help in this crime. They’re little more than expensive toys for big boys – paid for by us.

And besides, I’m sick of having low-flying planes and helicopters zooming over us when we’re trying to have a relaxing afternoon by the river. WTF? Rescue work is one thing but our droning surveillance aircraft are an obnoxious waste of public funds – we’d get more good out of expanding the mounted police.
